It's All Gravy

Yesterday at at Dairy Queen, Matt and I were eating with the Fosters (you met Ken in an earlier video) and a man named Homer.  We all went to the Cowboy Church together...  Well, now, I got my chicken fingers in a basket with fries, and Ranch dip in the middle.  I opened my Ranch, and it looked a bit translucent for normal Ranch.  So I said, "What is this?"

Holly Foster (17 today!) giggled and said, "That's gravy!"

Knowing there were NO mashed potatoes anywhere in sight I said, "Okay... what do I do with it?"

Holly's expression turned quite serious, and she put her hand on mine and said (in her southern accent), "Do they not have gravy where ya'll come from?"

I laughed and told her we DID, but not at Dairy Queen.  Long story short, she felt really sorry for us and our shortage on gravy.  I sure enjoy that family.

Well, anyway, one more story...

At the start of this weekend I let the Enemy get to me... I began to fret a tad about financial support.  I'm confident that the prayer support will come, but finances... I was unsure.  Monday (today) came, and the mail was announced, but there was sadly none for Matt and me.  THEN... Matt came over to my cubicle awhile later to show me that his grandparents' church had donated a special gift to our ministry!  I was very excited, and I sincerely expressed gratitude to the Lord.  Then the business office distributed three more gifts!  One quarterly gift and two special gifts!  It reminded me of the hymn "His Eye is on the Sparrow."  Do you know it?

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

So, now I don't feel discouraged... I know He watches me.

  2. Loved the gravy story! That Holly puts me in mind of cousin Ardena! She would react like that.

    And that story also reminds me of a highlight yesterday when a nat'l radio talk-show host commented about some great hot dog joint (? in southern Calif?), where they put catsup on the dog. He raved about them and how he'd been going there for years. Here in Chicagoland, they want to ship you to a foreign country if you suggest catsup on a hot dog!

    Maybe I should try catsup AND gravy?

  3. That's hilarious, Daddy! SEVERAL people here have asked if I'd teach them how to put together a REAL hot dog. :) Part of me wants to say, "Well, how do YOU like your hot dog... then THAT's the right way!" :) (But that's a bit too post-modern for my liking... so I'll show 'em what Chicago does.) The truth is, though (don't tell them), I think catsup is okay on a hot dog! (insert giggle and mischievous grin)

  4. This is so funny, Molly! I thought I had read it, and when I checked back today, I realized I hadn't. You crack me up, Girl. I miss you, but I totally love chatting almost every day (we are so cool, Connie) and reading your blog. Love you, Sista Girl Honey Child (aka Sister Mary Molly)
